Insyte Weekly: AI Agents & Fintech, Google's Latest AI Solution, and more

This was an interesting week in the business world. Here’s a breakdown of some of the week’s top stories.

Media & Entertainment

As reported by Tech Central, Spotify is reportedly planning a premium Music Pro tier, charging up to $5.99/month on top of existing subscriptions. The service, expected to launch this year, will offer high-quality audio, AI-powered remixing tools, and concert ticket access. Pricing will vary by region, with lower costs in less-developed markets. Spotify is also in talks with major ticket sellers to enhance the offering. This move aligns with CEO Daniel Ek’s vision for personalized experiences, including a “superfans of music” tier. The company recently secured multi-year deals with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group.

Hero Esports CEO Danny Tang highlighted esports' global impact at the LEAP 2025 Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Speaking alongside Saudi Esports Federation Chairman HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, Tang discussed how gaming aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and the upcoming 2027 Olympic Esports Games in Riyadh. Hero Esports, known for major tournaments like the Dubai Esports Festival and the Esports World Cup, recently launched the Asian Champions League with a $2 million prize pool. Tang emphasized gaming’s role in economic growth, employment, and innovation, praising Saudi Arabia’s investment in esports. She sees the region’s young, engaged gaming population as a foundation for esports becoming a mainstream cultural force.

Fintech

As reported by James Nguyen, AI agents in fintech are dynamic systems that integrate deep learning, data analysis, and automation to process transactional data, assess risks, and make decisions with minimal human oversight. Unlike simple chatbots, they enable real-time fraud detection, automated lending, and personalized financial services. In Southeast Asia, AI agents enhance customer onboarding through multilingual virtual assistants, improve fraud detection in KYC/AML processes, and enable alternative credit scoring based on mobile and e-commerce data. Companies like Kredivo and Funding Societies leverage AI to expand financial access, while robo-advisors like Stashaway use AI for automated investment strategies, managing over $1 billion in assets.

AI

According to Heekyong Yang, South Korea announced plans to secure 10,000 high-performance GPUs this year to strengthen its AI ecosystem amid intensifying global competition. Acting President Choi Sang-mok emphasized that AI dominance is shifting from corporate rivalries to national innovation battles. The GPUs will support the launch of a national AI computing centre through public-private cooperation. This move follows recent U.S. regulations restricting AI chip exports, though South Korea remains exempt. Nvidia dominates the GPU market, but OpenAI is developing its own AI chips to reduce reliance on Nvidia, while Chinese startups explore efficiency-focused AI models.

As reported by Ivan Mehta, OpenAI is expanding the rollout of Operator, its AI agent that performs tasks on behalf of users, to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in countries including Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the U.K. However, it remains unavailable in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland. Initially launched in the U.S. in January, Operator can handle tasks such as booking tickets, making reservations, filing expense reports, and online shopping. Available only to $200/month Pro users, it runs on a separate browser window for user control. OpenAI faces competition from Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit, which are also developing AI agent tools.

According to Reuters, Google has introduced an AI tool designed to act as a virtual collaborator for biomedical scientists, aiding them in synthesizing vast amounts of literature and generating novel hypotheses. Tested at Stanford University and Imperial College London, the AI demonstrated advanced reasoning capabilities, particularly in liver fibrosis research, where its suggested approaches showed promising potential in inhibiting disease causes. Developed by DeepMind, Google's AI unit, this tool is part of the company’s broader focus on scientific AI applications. While it enhances expert solutions over time, Google emphasizes that it is meant to complement, not replace, human researchers, fostering greater scientific collaboration.

Tourism

As reported by Robert Kitchin, The New Zealand government has announced a $30 million investment from the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) to support tourism infrastructure and biodiversity protection. This funding will be allocated to popular tourism and conservation sites across Aotearoa New Zealand, including Aoraki Mt Cook, Rangitoto Island, Goat Island, and Rakiura National Park. The initiative aims to enhance visitor experiences while promoting sustainable tourism and local economic growth. Of the total investment, $11 million will be used to improve tourism infrastructure, including hut and carpark upgrades, safety improvements to bridges, and better beach access at key locations. The remaining $19 million will go toward biodiversity efforts such as predator control to protect endangered species, invasive plant management, and managing deer, goats, and wallabies in national parks. The funding comes from the $35 IVL fee paid by international visitors.

According to Faith Katunga, Ghana has officially implemented a visa-free policy for all African passport holders. This landmark decision reinforces Ghana’s commitment to pan-African unity and represents a major step toward the long-envisioned goal of seamless travel across the continent. The policy is expected to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange among African nations, fostering deeper regional integration and economic growth.
