Google has announced the launch of Private AI Compute, a new artificial intelligence (AI) processing platform designed to combine the power of its Gemini cloud models with the same level of privacy protection users expect from on-device processing. The development marks a major step in Google’s ongoing commitment to delivering AI solutions that prioritise user safety, security, and responsibility.

As AI evolves to become more personalised and proactive, it increasingly requires advanced reasoning and computational power that often exceeds what on-device technology can handle. Private AI Compute aims to bridge this gap by providing cloud-based AI experiences that are both high-performing and privacy-preserving.

According to Google, the system ensures that users’ personal data remains private and inaccessible—even to Google itself. It achieves this through a multi-layered security design built on Google’s Secure AI Framework, AI Principles, and Privacy Principles.

At the heart of Private AI Compute is a fortified processing environment that isolates and safeguards user data. The platform leverages Google’s custom Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and Titanium Intelligence Enclaves (TIE) to deliver seamless AI capabilities through an integrated tech stack. Data transmitted from devices to the cloud is secured via remote attestation and encryption, ensuring sensitive information is processed only within a protected, hardware-secured boundary.

Private AI Compute is already powering enhanced features in Google’s latest products. On the Pixel 10, for instance, the Magic Cue feature now provides more timely and context-aware suggestions, while the Recorder app can summarise transcriptions across multiple languages with improved accuracy.

Google described this launch as “just the beginning,” emphasising that Private AI Compute opens up a new generation of secure, cloud-assisted AI experiences. The company plans to continue refining the technology and expanding its applications to balance innovation and privacy in its AI ecosystem.
